1. Recognize You Are a Sinner
The Bible says in Romans 3:10, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one."
We have all sinned. To sin is to disobey God's law, and Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
This means that no human is perfect. We may seem good compared to others, but not compared to God.
2. Understand There Is a Penalty for Sin
Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death."
This refers not only to physical death, but also to spiritual death: eternal separation from God in hell. Revelation 21:8 says,
"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."
We have all lied. Sin has a consequence:
eternal separation from God.
3. Believe Christ Paid for Your Sins
Romans 5:8 says, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Jesus Christ came into the world, lived a sinless life, and died on the cross for our sins. He rose again on the third day to give us eternal life. He took our place. We deserved punishment, but He took it for us.
4. Place Your Faith in Christ and Confess Him
Romans 10:9 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Salvation is a free gift. It is not earned by works or religion, but by faith in Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
If you believe in Jesus Christ as your only Savior, you can pray to God and confess your faith.
A Suggested Prayer
"Lord, I know that I am a sinner and that sin separates me from You. I believe that Jesus Christ died and rose again to save me. Right now, I place all my trust in Him as my Savior. Please forgive me and give me eternal life. In Jesus' name. Amen."
Did You Pray This from the Heart?
If you prayed sincerely, trusting in Christ, the Bible says you have eternal life. 1 John 5:13 says, "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life."
